About Springtide Marine

Springtide Marine is a family-owned marine construction business based in Freeport, Maine, serving Casco Bay and surrounding coastal communities. Founded by Bradley and Alexis in October 2025, we bring together hands-on building experience, thoughtful project planning, and a personal connection to the coast we call home.

From our shop on the Harraseeket River, we work with waterfront homeowners, local municipalities, and businesses and organizations that rely on access to the water. Our work includes planning, permitting, and building docks, piers, and floats; seasonal installation and removal; mooring service; and assessment and repair of existing structures. Whether we’re building a new system or maintaining one that’s been in place for years, our goal is to keep it working well through Maine’s changing seasons.

Design & Construction

Bradley Grillo

Bradley grew up in Freeport, sailing Casco Bay with his family and learning its harbors, tides, and unique character. He completed Harraseeket Yacht Club’s youth sailing program and later taught in the program as a teenager. During high school, he spent a semester at sea aboard the Harvey Gamage. Today, he serves on the yacht club’s board, continuing his lifelong connection to the local sailing community.

After studying mechanical engineering at Alfred University, Bradley worked for Cianbro on major energy and infrastructure projects, including the Fox Islands Wind project on Vinalhaven. He then spent ten years designing and building docks and piers and servicing moorings along the Maine coast, gaining hands-on experience with dozens of waterfront systems.

At Springtide Marine, Bradley draws on a lifetime navigating Maine’s coast, the technical demands of large-scale construction, and years of working directly on waterfront structures. He brings diligence, an appetite for learning, and a talent for finding elegant solutions to difficult problems.

Every shoreline presents a different combination of ledge, mud, cobble, vegetation, tides, and exposure to weather. Bradley’s grounding in engineering and mathematics helps him design systems that respond to those conditions with strength, flexibility, and careful use of materials where each is needed. He leads design, estimating, and construction, carrying that attention to detail from the first site visit through the finished build.

Permitting & Business Operations

Alexis Grillo

Alexis brings an artist’s eye, a background in nonprofit management, and a deep respect for Maine’s coastal landscapes to her work at Springtide Marine. She studied studio art at Alfred University (where she met Bradley) and pursued graduate study in policy, planning, and management at the University of Southern Maine’s Muskie School of Public Service.

Her art practice has cultivated a habit of close observation and an appreciation for how form, proportion, and materials shape our experience of a place. At Springtide Marine, that perspective informs her attention to how waterfront structures fit into the landscapes people come to the coast to enjoy.

During ten years at Chewonki, Alexis worked across fundraising, marketing, communications, events, and database administration, developing the organizational skills and attention to detail that help keep a business running well. Being part of its environmental education community also deepened her interest in coastal ecology and how people interact with the shoreline.

At Springtide Marine, Alexis coordinates permitting, contracts, and business administration. Complementing Bradley’s technical and construction experience, she brings careful attention to client relationships, project details, and the shoreline habitats where the work takes place. For Alexis, building along the coast is a privilege that comes with a responsibility to understand and care for the places that make it special.

At Home on the Harraseeket

Bradley and Alexis first met as freshmen at Alfred University in 2004. Their shared life of building and making began in 2013, when Alexis joined Bradley in Harpswell as he completed an extensive rebuild of what became their first home together. They finished the remaining renovations together, beginning a partnership that would eventually grow into Springtide Marine.

After marrying in 2017, Bradley and Alexis bought a property on the Harraseeket River in Freeport and undertook another substantial rebuild, taking the house down to its framing and rebuilding it together. Their work has extended across the property, removing invasive plants, establishing gardens, and building the workshop that now serves as the base for Springtide Marine. Today, they share the home they’ve created with their daughter, Arlo, and miniature poodle, Penny.
